Guillotine Pendant Necklace

$69.00 USD

This little guillotine pendant is made of solid sterling silver that has been oxidized then hand burnished to enhance all the little details like the pronounced grain in the wooden frame and stocks and the tiny rivet heads that secure that wicked looking blade into the supporting cross-beam. If you want, you could spice it up even more by adding a touch of blood red nail polish to the edge of the blade. This little beauty measures 1-1/8" long by 5/8" wide.

The guillotine is noted for long being the main method of execution in France and, more particularly, for its use during the French Revolution, when it "became a part of popular culture, celebrated as the people's avenger by supporters of the Revolution and vilified as the pre-eminent symbol of the Reign of Terror by opponents." In spite of being primarily associated with the French Revolution, the guillotine continued to be used long after in several countries, including France, where it was the sole method of execution until its abolition in 1841.
